Description
A bright and colorful marine fish. It is predominantly violet, the flanks are sprinkled with yellow dots, and an orange line runs laterally from nose to pectoral fin.
Food
Purple Coral Perch do best when fed a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched frozen brine shrimp, and over time may eat high-quality flake foods offered in small quantities throughout the day. An attached refugium cultivating copepods and amphipods provides a steady supply of nutritious live food sure to keep this active planktivore content.
Breeding
Anthias species all share the trait of being hermaphroditic. If a dominant male perishes, the largest female of the group will often morph to take its place.
Compatible with
They are a very peaceful, reef-safe species and should only be housed with other peaceful, community oriented tank mates. Because of their hermaphroditic hierarchical nature, there should only be one male of the species housed at a time (two males will commonly fight until only one is left). Purple Coral Perch require the presence of their own kind and it's recommended that they be kept in groups of five or more.
Note
Because of their small size, they do not pose a threat to other fish and make wonderful reef inhabitants.
