Description
The Stripe Surgeon has horizontal blue striping on a bright yellow to orange background. It also has large peduncle spines.
Food
Feed a diet rich in vegetable matter including frozen herbivore foods, dried seaweed, or live macro algae. Freeze dried algae sheets should be offered daily.
Breeding
Has not been bred in captivity. They form spawning aggregations and pair off to spawn. They are egg scatterers.
Compatible with
It's not recommended to house them with other Stripe Surgeons, but they can coexist relatively peacefully with heterospecifics; other tank mates often include angelfish and other tang species as well as other aggressive or community oriented fish. Not many species will bother them due to their mature size and the presence of their caudal spines.
Note
It is aggressive towards other Tangs, Surgeonfish, and fish with similar body shapes or feeding patterns.
