Description
The fish is large in size, the head being elongate and slender. Juvenile coloration displays large black spots on a white body. As the fish matures the spots become smaller but more plentiful. This explains one of its many common names, the "Polka-dot" Grouper.
Food
Feed a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods. These foods include krill, raw table shrimp, squid, clam and mussel. It is also a good idea to occasionally supplement with some type of herbivore diet.
Breeding
Captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences.
Compatible with
This fish is not reef-compatible as it will see smaller fish and invertebrates as food. They will not tolerate other Groupers and should only be kept with robust fast-swimming tank mates (so they are not out-competed to food by the Grouper) such as some Tangs, Angelfish, Wrasses and Triggerfish.
Note
An easy fish to care for with no great special requirements. It will however require a lot of rockwork as it tends to stay close to the rock looking for prey.
