Description
The Blue Green Chromis is a understated, but attractive smallish fish which is easily recognized by the uniform iridescent green coloring over their entire body. There is a similar species called the Green Chromis which can be differentiated by a black spot at the base of the pectoral fins.
Food
Frequent (2 times per day) and varied feedings. Try to give them a variety of marine foods. They may accept vitamin enriched flake foods, frozen and definitely live foods.
Breeding
Sometimes bred in saltwater reef tanks. Need a small school (shoal) and good water conditions. Get them ready by giving them live foods. Males will turn slightly yellow and should build a nest in the sand and court various females. The male will then watch the eggs until they hatch a few days later.
Compatible with
Relatively non-aggressive, they tend to not bother or be bothered by other fish. However, you may not want to put them in with fish large enough to eat them. Groupers, lionfish, and eels all present an element of danger for this peaceful species.
Note
The green chromis makes an excellent aquarium fish, as do most chromis fish found in local fish stores. It is almost always available at reasonable prices, and the only word of warning is that it is best kept in groups of six or more fish of the same species.
