Description
The glass catfish is one of the most unusual fish commonly kept in the hobby, and it is certainly the most transparent. All of the bones and the sac that holds the internal organs are clearly visible through the transparent flesh of the glass catfish. Fortunately, the glass cat is delicate enough that it cannot be abused by being dyed different colors as has been done with the common glassfish.
Food
Prefers live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworm and daphnia, but usually will also take small pellets or flakes. Unlike most other catfisht it feeds in midwater.
Breeding
Rarely achieved in aquaria and little information is available, although it is being produced in some numbers on Far Eastern fish farms. As it's thought to be a seasonal spawner in nature, simulation of the rainy season may induce it to breed. Try lowering the temperature by a few degrees and perform large daily water changes with soft water, whilst feeding the fish lots of live foods.
Compatible with
Peaceful to the point of timidity. It will not do well in the company of boisterous or much larger species. Good tankmates include rasboras, many tetras, smaller anabantoids and dwarf cichlids. It absolutely must be kept in a shoal of at least six indivduals or it will often refuse to feed and pine away.
